1. Installationen

Andere Arbeiten wie 'The
Research (de/ch) mit der Installation 'naked bandit/here, not here/white
sovereign 3.0'.

2. Gravicells – Gravity and Resistance
Seiko Mikami, Sota Ichikawa (jp)

3. Untitled 5
Camille Utterback (us)

Algorithmen basieren. http://www.camilleutterback.com

4. The Catalogue
Chris Oakley (uk)

Oakleys Videoarbeit evoziert Visionen vom 'glaesernen Kunden'. Mittels

5. naked bandit/here, not here/white sovereign 3.0
Knowbotic Research (de/ch)

Die Installation 'naked bandit/here, not here/white sovereign 3.0' des

7. The Living Room
Victoria Fang (us)

In Victoria Fangs
Struktur zugrunde liegt. http://www.victoriafang.com/livingroom

8. Run Motherfucker Run!
Marnix De Nijs
Eroeffnung: Mittwoch, 2.2. 18 Uhr
3.2. – 13.2., taeglich 14 – 20 Uhr, 13.2. bis 24 Uhr
Podewils'sches Palais (Klosterstr. 68-70)

Nimm an

**************************************************
9. Spatial Sounds (100 db at 100 km/h)
Eroeffnung: Mittwoch, 2.2. 18 Uhr
3.2.-13.2., taeglich 14 – 20 Uhr, 13.2. bis 24 Uhr
singuhr – hoergalerie in parochial (Klosterstr. 67)

besser zurueck, ausser Reichweite.

**************************************************
10. Stationsraum fuer assimilativen Zahlwitz
Thom Kubli (ch/de)
Eroeffnung: Mittwoch, 2.2.18 Uhr
3.2. – 13.2., taeglich 14 – 20 Uhr, 13.2. bis 24 Uhr
Podewils'sches Palais (Klosterstr. 68-70)

In

1. Installations

Interactivity is a feature many of the installations on display in the
exhibition area of Haus der Kulturen der Welt and at Podewil and
Parochialkirche (Marnix de Nijs & Edwin van der Heide) have in common. Other
works like 'The Catalogue' by Chris Oakley (uk) offer a political perspective
on the theme BASICS, and sometimes they even combine both – as in the
installation 'naked bandit/here, not here/white sovereign 3.0' by the artists'
collective Knowbotic Research (de/ch).

Unless specified otherwise, the installations will be on display during the
festival (February 4 – 8) daily from 10 – 22 hrs at Haus der Kulturen der
Welt.

Information about these and further media art installations featured by
transmediale can be found on our website: http://www.transmediale.de

2. Gravicells
Seiko Mikami, Sota Ichikawa (jp)

In the centre of the installation space is a 6m x 6m floor composed
of 225 units
of cell-like grids with built-in sensors. The moment a participant stands and
moves on it, the variation of his or her position, weight, and speed is
automatically and continuously measured, analysed, and reflected on sound, LED
light and geometrical images, generating substantial spatial changes. In this
artwork, it is possible for us to develop a new human sense through feeling
gravity differently than usual and having new perception of the body. Walking
freely in the site, visitors are able to feel gravity that they are seldom
aware of, resistance to it, and the effects caused by other participants.
Additionally, the position of the exhibition space is simultaneously measured
by GPS, so that the installation site is moving relative to gravity as well.

3. Untitled 5
Camille Utterback (us)

'Untitled 5' is the fifth interactive installation in the 'External Measures'
Series, which Utterback has been developing since 2001. The goal of these works
is to create an aesthetic system which responds fluidly and intriguingly to
physical movement in the exhibition space. The existence, positions, and
behaviours of various parts of the projected image depend entirely on people's
presence and movement in the exhibition area. 'Untitled 5' creates imagery that
is painterly, organic and evocative while still being completely algorithmic.

4. The Catalogue
Chris Oakley (uk)

Oakley's video work deals with the retail environment and offers a bleak vision
of surveillance technology, RFID and data brokers, where access to consumers'
data has been extended beyond our purchasing habits and lifestyle choices to
our very fabric, with predictions of our future health prospects made en masse
via analysis of the data from our weekly shop. Utilising footage from a
shopping mall manipulated through screen overlays and motion tracking, 'The
Catalogue' places the viewer into the position of a remote and dispassionate
agency, observing humanity as a series of units whose value is defined by their
spending capacity and future needs.

5. naked bandit/here, not here/white sovereign 3.0
Knowbotic Research (de/ch)

Knowbotic Research's 'Naked Bandit/Here, not here/White Sovereign 3.0' focuses
on the mechanisms of detainment of so-called 'unlawful enemy combatants' – as
held at Guantanamo - who can be regarded as 'here' and, at the same time,
'elsewhere', not anymore on the territory of the nation state, and thus banned,
stripped off from the legal framework which the nation state guarantees ('Naked
Bandit'). The project investigates the mechanisms of such an inclusive
exclusion and the inherent formations of power. By remodelling these specific
formalisms in software code the artists are able to offer different possible
scenarios for the liberation of the 'naked bandit'. It's obvious that the
solution cannot be applied on the prison situation. However this tension of the
hypothetical is crucial to the aesthetics of the work.

6. Pongmechanik
Niklas Roy (de)

Pongmechanik is an electro-mechanical reproduction of the original video game
classic 'Pong'. While digital games produce increasingly realistic virtual
images, this computer game is comprised of the simplest components. Here, the
inner-workings of the game are exposed.

7. The Living Room
Victoria Fang (us)

A murder has taken place and the killer must be found. In Victoria Fang's
intricate installation, all three moveable panels with LCD-Monitors can be
shifted like a puzzle pieces around the room. When all three elements are
correctly positioned, 'memories' are triggered with which you are able to
unravel the mystery. Through the position change of the panels, one's
experience with the space and layout changes in every 'scene'. Ultimately, the
installation functions as a gigantic puzzle containing a complex narrative.

8. Run Motherfucker Run!
Marnix de Nijs (nl)
Opening: Wed., February 2, 18 hrs
Exhibition: February 3 – 13, daily 14 – 20 hrs, February 13 until 24 hrs
Podewils'sches Palais (Klosterstr. 68-70)

The installation combines 'expanded cinema' with interactive media art. The
visitor is no virtual navigator, but has to explore the movie with full
physical involvement: 'Running on a conveyor belt with a large projection
screen in front of you, you find your way through a city with seemingly empty
streets and dark alleys. You yourself determine the development of the movie by
unexpectedly dashing into streets. Experience a thriller-like adventure over
which you only partly have control.'

**************************************************
9. Spatial Sounds (100 db at 100 km/h)
Opening: Wed., February 2, 18 hrs
Exhibition: February 3 – 13, daily 14 – 20 hrs, February 13 until 24 hrs
singuhr – hoergalerie in parochial (Klosterstr. 67)

An interactive audio installation. Like a watchdog, the machine scans the
surrounding space for visitors. You can feel the displacement of air as the
speaker whizzes past you, and you had better step back, out of reach. The
machine slows down and, when the shock wears off, you start exploring the
space, with your movements manipulating the sound it produces. Just don't get
too close! 'Spatial Sounds' (100dB at 100km/h) builds up a physically tangible
relationship with the visitor, since it is the game of attracting and repelling
between machine and visitor that determines its sound and movement.

10. Stationsraum fuer assimilativen Zahlwitz
Thom Kubli (ch/de)
Opening: Wed., February 2, 18 hrs
Exhibition: February 3 – 13, daily 14 – 20 hrs, February 13 until 24 hrs
Podewils'sches Palais (Klosterstr. 68-70)

In a white room, ten cubes are placed symmetrically on the floor. The objects
are made out of yellow gelatine. Each of them contains a voice coil from which
audio-signals - spoken numbers from one to ten - are emitted. From outside the
white room we hear atmospheric sounds from a psychiatric ward. - A sound
installation which explores the different layers of haptic, acoustic and
optical perception and the monomanic edges of reason.
