V2_ UPDATE FOR JANUARY 2005
1) Javier Pérez Aranda on 34th International Film Festival Rotterdam
2) V2_ and Creative Commons
1) Javier Pérez Aranda on 34th International Film Festival Rotterdam
V2_ participates in the Exploding Cinema program of the 34th International
Film Festival Rotterdam with the installation Science Friction by Spanish
artist Javier Pérez Aranda (1963).
Remains or residues from all manners of processes generated by human
activity form raw materials for artist Javier Pérez Aranda. For Science
Friction, he collected leftovers from scientific processes and, in
collaboration with composer Francisco López, created a sound piece based
on 'residual noises'. Science Friction explores the eminently functional
language of science, which is divested of its explanatory function and
transformed into a reflection on the aesthetics of functionality.
The official opening of the Exploding Cinema program is on Thursday 27
January, 18:00 hrs at Witte de With (Witte de Withstraat 50, Rotterdam).
The same evening at 20:00 hrs, there will be an informal opening of
Science Friction at V2_.

2) V2_ and Creative Commons
At the moment V2_ is looking into the possibility and feasibility of
making available (part of) the activities and artworks in the on-line
V2_Archive under a Creative Commons license. Creative Commons is an
initiative of American law professor Lawrence Lessig, proposing a
practical solution for a more flexible approach to copyright. In Holland,
a Dutch version of this milder form of copyright was launched in June
2004. V2_ promotes a less restrained use and dissemination of information,
for instance for educational purposes. Of course this can only be done
with the consent of the artists involved and other interested parties,
which is why we are currently making an inventory of their opinions on
this subject. Reactions and feedback are welcome through: archive AT v2.nl
