vassiliea stylianidou (* 1967 in thessaloniki) researches in her video
works and video installations the conditioning of perception in
hypermedial worlds. her interest focuses on the discreet interfaces
between reality and fiction and the intertwining between individual and
medium.

“influenced by media, advertisement, internet and product-oriented
behaviour, the perception of reality has shifted enormously. reality has
been turned into a hybrid multimedia product, thus transforming into
fiction.” (stylianidou). the transformation of reality, shown on the
example of the human body in its urban appearance/context, was the main
target of stylianidou's artistic research during her three-month
residency in innsbruck. the "results" of her research are presented in
three video installations under the heading /profiction01:
i.have.glad.news.for.you/. they probe into varying forms and methods of
materialisation and representation of reality in the format of “hybrid
multimedia items”.

vassiliea stylianidou studied linguistics at the university of jannina
(gr) and fine arts at the berlin university of the arts. recent
exhibitions (all in 2004): "artconcept", international art festival st.
petersburg; "ausderferne ausdernähe ausdermitte", european patent office
and galerie françoise heitsch, munich; "breakthrough!" arco, madrid.
vassiliea stylianidou lives and works in berlin and athens (gr).
