Im Rahmen des Ausstellungsprojekts "*Sweat, Stop, Rewrite!*" wird die
Künstlerin *Jing Y. *mit *Heiko Pfreundt *in einen Dialog über ihre
laufende Arbeit zu den Fragen treten: Wer hat Zugang zur Kunst? Wer hat das
Recht, zu sprechen und zu zeichnen? Wie können wir das bestehende System
der Kunstelite oder des ästhetischen Mainstreams durch Bildung,
Chancengleichheit und Zugang zu Ressourcen verändern?

*Jing Y.*, die normalerweise in Guangzhou lebt, hat eng mit chinesischen
Bürgerinnen zusammengearbeitet, die in der Regel keine professionellen
Schriftstellerinnen sind. Sie gründete 2017 das Projekt "Writing ∙ Mothers"
und hat seitdem mehrere Bücher mit deren Memoiren, Reflexionen, Debatten
und Statements koproduziert. In diesem Rahmen gründete sie später das
Projekt "Sweat, Stop, Rewrite!" (SSR), ein Projekt, das u. a.
Arbeitsmigrantinnen dabei unterstützt, visuelle Erzählungen über ihre
Erfahrungen zu erstellen. Diese sozial engagierten Projekte und ihre
Präsentationen verkörpern ihre Methode, "Kunst und dokumentarische Ansätze
zu nutzen, um in einer politisch schwierigen Zeit eine selbstbestimmte
Bürgerschaft zu schaffen". Sie ergeben ein einzigartiges Profil einer
wichtigen Dynamik zwischen der Partei und den Menschen in der heutigen
chinesischen Gesellschaft: Während die Partei ihre Macht erhält, indem sie
den Traum von einer kommunistischen Zukunft dem Kapitalismus in der
Gegenwart überlässt, wird das Volk aufgefordert, den Sozialismus gegen die
Chance einzutauschen, schon jetzt reich zu werden.

*Heiko Pfreundt* ist freiberuflicher Kurator, Projektraumgestalter,
Künstler und Kunstvermittler in Berlin. Er ist Absolvent der Hochschule für
Künste Bremen und Gründer des Berliner Projektraums Kreuzberg Pavillon. Als
Arbeiterkind und erster Studierender in seiner Familie beschäftigt er sich
mit der Frage, warum es immer noch so schwierig ist, in der bildenden Kunst
über soziale Klassenunterschiede zu sprechen.

As part of the exhibition project “*Sweat, Stop, Rewrite!*” the artist *Jing
Y.* will get into a dialogue with *Heiko Pfreundt* on their ongoing work
around the questions of: Who has access to art? Who has the right to speak
and draw? How do we change the existing system of art elite or aesthetic
mainstream through education, equal opportunities and access to recourses?

*Jing Y.*, who is usually based in Guangzhou, has been working closely with
Chinese citizens who usually are not professional writers. She founded the
“Writing • Mothers” project in 2017, and has since co-produced several
books of their memoirs, reflections, debates, and statements. Within this
framework, she later founded “Sweat, Stop, Rewrite!” (SSR) project that
facilitates amongst others female migrant workers to create visual
narratives around their experience. These socially engaged projects and
their presentations embody her method of “using art and documentary
approaches to create self-made citizenship” in a period of political
difficulty. They add up to a unique profile of a major dynamic between the
Party and the people in Chinese society today: while the Party maintains
power by surrendering the dream of a communist future to capitalism in the
present, the people are asked to exchange socialism for a chance at
becoming rich right now.

*Heiko Pfreundt *is a Berlin-based freelance curator, project space
designer, artist and art mediator. He is a graduate of the Hochschule für
Künste Bremen and founder of the Berlin project space Kreuzberg Pavillon.
As a working-class child and the first to study in his family, he is
concerned with the question of why it is still so difficult to talk about
social class differences in the visual arts.
