What?
Performative installation based on the distillation of capital

On September 4 and 5, the public are invited to chew dollar-bills and spit
the pulp into a glass container after rinsing their mouth with vodka.

On September 6, the resulting blend will be distilled and bottled in front
of the audience. The performance is part of a series of events scheduled
during the biennale at the New Gallery of the Romanian Institute in Venice.

Discapital (Distillation of Capital) is a component of the project “Canal
Grande: Capital Pool and the Associated Public“ shown at the Romanian
Pavilion in Giardini and the New Gallery of the Romanian Institute for
Culture and Humanistic Research in Venice.

On this occasion the artist will review the accumulated capital (donated by
the public) in the “Capital Pool” from Giardini and stored behind the bars
in the “Capital Crypt” at the New Gallery, since the start of Biennale Arte
2019. Also, the artist will discuss with the public about strategies of
using the Independent Art Found in philanthropic, charitable and other
independent initiatives (please visit capitalpool dot net).

Dan Mihălțianu’s work exhibited at the Biennale Arte 2019 is functioning as
a concrete social and economic process; it established an autonomous
financial fund which is engaging the visitors by inviting them to
contribute, self-organize and reflect on concepts such as exercising direct
democracy, circulation and use of capital by participating in the final
decisions about the destination of the accumulated found. Discapital is
meant as an opportunity for the public to engage directly with the artist
and his work.
