Greetings from the Transformaking Summit http://transformaking.org
in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.  The Summit  brings together makers,
scientists, hackers, bricoleurs, researchers, artists,designers and  
other interdisciplinary practitioners from across the globe.The well  
curated exhibition opened on September 14th at the Jogja National  
Museum followed
by experimental performances. An international residency program and a  
Boot Camp ?between research and communities pioneered in the Global  
south, which paradoxically offer a model for the ?west? to adopt, and  
question the predominant obsession with science effectiveness reduced  
to patents and publication in closed journals? preceded the final  
events between September 14-16.  At the Symposium (among the long list  
of speakers) Stephen Kovats presented ?The essence of Critical and  
Transformative Making  for the Development of Community Empowerment?;  
other topics included the role
of grassroots innovation in digital creative economy, global  
innovation exchange etc., I presented on Transforming Art & Science &  
Technology Education: Alternate Options. It was great to observe that  
the well-attended symposium attracted in addition to international and  
regional speakers
many local students. The boots of the Transformaking Fair show a wide  
variety of intriguing ware. It is quite an amazing Summit - hope it  
will be repeated next year!
