The 4th ACM International Symposium on Pervasive Displays 2015

10-12 June, 2015

Saarbrücken, Germany

http://www.pervasivedisplays.org/

Building on the success of the previous three events, we are pleased to announce the call for papers for the 4th ACM International Symposium on Pervasive Displays. This event will take place in Saarbrücken in June 2015 and will include a keynote address. In addition to research papers we are also soliciting submissions for posters, demonstrations and arts as well as a video track.
NEW THIS YEAR: PerDis 2015 will offer an extra day prior to the main conference, featuring tutorials, demos, and a pre-conference reception.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

CALL FOR DEMONSTRATIONS AND ARTS TRACK, POSTER TRACK AND VIDEO TRACK

As digital displays become pervasive, they become increasingly prevalent and indeed relevant in many areas, including advertising, art, architecture, computing, engineering, entertainment, interaction design, sociology and urban life.

We invite submissions that report on cutting-edge research in the broad spectrum of pervasive digital displays, from large interactive walls to wearable displays, from installations to personalised signage or mobile displays to urban visualisation.

As a targeted topic venue, Pervasive Displays offers authors the unique opportunity to present their work to a research community focused on display technologies and research questions surrounding them, and allow them to receive feedback from experts in the field and other highly interested parties in an intimate symposium setting.

The symposium on Pervasive Displays welcomes work on all areas pertaining to digital displays including, but not limited to:

- Applications

- Content design

- Evaluations, case studies, deployments and experience reports

- Interfaces and interaction techniques

- Novel technologies and new forms of pervasive display

- System architectures and infrastructure

- Research methods for pervasive displays

- Media facades and architecture

- Art installations

-------------------------------------------------------------------

SUBMISSIONS DEMONSTRATIONS AND ARTS TRACK

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The demonstrations and arts track presents an opportunity to publish late-breaking results, technical descriptions, smaller research contributions and works-in-progress in a concise and visible format. Accepted demonstrations and art installations will be displayed in a designated session, providing presenters with an opportunity to engage in discussions with other attendees around their research.

Authors are required to submit an abstract as well as recommended to include a short (5 minute maximum) video documenting the work. Submitted abstracts should be a maximum of two (2) pages in length in the ACM SIGCHI format, and should clearly explain the research question addressed, research method and tasks, findings or results, and contributions of the work. Abstracts should also provide sufficient background and related work to situate and contextualize the authors’ work within the greater body of research.

Authors must provide a link to download the video documentation (e.g. from Youtube or Vimeo). Accepted submissions will need to submit an additional installation information form.

In addition we encourage submissions that can be displayed on an existing media façade in Saarbrücken. More information with technical specification about the media façade will be published on the conference website.

As the abstract may be viewed without the demo, this should be written to stand alone as an independent submission.

Submissions should consist of original work not been previously published or concurrently under consideration for any other conference, workshop, journal, or other publication with an ISBN, ISSN or DOI number.

All submissions (and supplementary material) should not be anonymized and will be reviewed by an international panel of experts in the field of pervasive displays. All accepted abstracts will be archived in the ACM Digital Library.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

SUBMISSIONS POSTERS

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The poster track presents an opportunity to publish late-breaking results, technical descriptions, smaller research contributions, and works-in-progress in a concise format. Accepted posters will be displayed in a designated session, providing presenters with an opportunity to engage in discussions with other attendees around their research.

Authors are required to submit an abstract and draft poster. Poster abstracts should be a maximum of two (2) pages in ACM SIGCHI format, clearly describing the research questions addressed, research methods and tasks, findings or results, and the contribution to the pervasive displays community. Abstracts should also provide sufficient background and related work to situate and contextualize the authors’ work within the greater body of research. As the abstract may be viewed without the poster, this should be written to stand alone as an independent submission. Draft posters should be formatted for A1 portrait (594x841mm).

SUBMISSIONS VIDEOS

-------------------------------------------------------------------

PerDis 2015 video track offers a possibility to showcase novel visions, reflections and studies that are most suited for video format and fall within the focus areas of the symposium. A video submission consists of the video and an accompanying two-page abstract in the ACM SIGCHI format. Submitted videos will be judged based on their focus, production quality as well as the level of intellectual engagement with the symposium audience. Each video will be shown within a suitable single-track session, preceded by short introduction from the corresponding video author, and followed by short discussion with the audience. Accepted videos will be made available in the ACM Digital Library after the conference.

Checklist for video submissions:
- At most five minutes in length. Contact the video chair in advance in case you have a good reason to request exemption for the length limit.
- Present video title and credits shortly in the beginning; keep your focus within your content.
- Encoded as MP4 using the H.264 codec. No exceptions!
- Resolution at least 720px * 480px. Send as high-resolution copy as possible.
- 16:9 aspect ratio. Encode your video using square pixels for the pixel aspect ratio to avoid the video looking stretched when projected to a canvas.
- At most 100 MB in file size. Again, contact the video chair in advance if you have a good reason for submitting a video file larger that this.

As the abstract may be viewed without the video, this should be written to stand alone as an independent submission.
