Pilia, Mike Watt, David Grubbs, BJNilsen, Simon James Phillips, Aidan
Baker, Hobocombo. His fifth solo record “Natura Morta” has just been

“Rhythm may well be written into the DNA of every human, as fundamental
as a heartbeat […] Belfi demonstrates a rare understanding of its
subtleties and complexities.”

GAMUT INC’s record release show for their first release, EX MACHINA
(Bółt / satelita).

GAMUT INC (aka Marion Wörle & Maciej Sledziecki) firmly claims an
original position as creative retro-futurists with their first release,
EX MACHINA.

With the help of instrument builder Gerhard Kern, gamut inc created
several music machines, based partly on centuries-old predecessors.
These music machines play autonomously and acoustically, but are
controlled by the computer.

For example, the Carillon is based on a 16-note glockenspiel, and the
Physharmonica emerged as a kind of automated accordion. The Bowjo is
limited melodically, but complex timbres and numerous modulations are
possible through changes in the positioning and pressure of various
motors on the strings.

These Jules-Verne-like instruments are driven by specific
self-developed controller software that enable not only note playing,
but also the complex sonic qualities come to light. Motors in the
Physharmonica can be used to perform fluent changes in register, and the
wind supply is regulated by chokes in a two chamber system.

Our focus lies in sonic textures – for that purpose we have developed
specialized software to control these machines live. Further on we use
different forms of live-generated music-scores to enable different
degrees of composition and live-improvisation between the machines,
electronic sounds and “real” musicians, with which we like to cooperate.

All four pieces sought to dust off ancient inventions, but the music
didn´t feel anachronistic, the way the series described itself. Instead,
it reached for new effects, as if trying to cheat the passing of time.
