DEADLINE EXTENDED TO JUNE 10

We invite people interested in participating of the conference TELAS À
PARTE / BESIDES THE SCREEN BRAZIL, to be held in Brazil in August 2014.

The event is open to research projects of an academic, artistic,
technological or audiovisual nature. All the proposals will be presented

Kingdom), Erika Balsom (King’s College, United Kingdom), Stefania Charitou
(Universidad de las Américas, Mexico), Virginia Crisp (Middlesex
University, United Kingdom) and Adnan Hadzi (Goldsmiths’ College, United

installations, performances, artifacts and devices; anomalous movies,
impossible screenplays and other forms of entropic cinema. We would

forming two working groups. Each group will be assigned to a separated date

or the city of Vitória (UFES, 25-27 August).

Participation is free, but attendance is limited. To be considered for

short biographical note (~150 words) to the email besidesthescreen at gmail.com,

Besides the Screen is an international research network active since 2010,
involving participants from the UK, Mexico and Brazil. It means to
investigate the continuing development of audiovisual practices from a
materialistic perspective, deploying artistic and unorthodox methodologies
in the context of cinema studies. Its ever-expanding constellation of
topics revolves around techniques of projection, the centrality of marginal
processes, and the manifold systems of movie storage and transmission.

This event is supported by the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Comunicação e
Territorialidades/UFES, Mundo em Rede/PUC-SP, LAICA/USP, FAPESP and the UK
Arts & Humanities Research Council.
