Position Purpose
The School of Design at QUT seeks an enthusiastic and innovative lecturer for Interactive and Visual Design with a research and teaching background in key areas of information design and visualisation, visual communication and interaction design. A passion for visual communication, an understanding of contemporary prototyping methods, appreciation of design philosophy, an interest in sustainability and critical design practices are all highly desirable. The successful applicant will have experience in teaching and learning and demonstrate the potential to contribute to teaching across the spectrum of the Interactive and Visual Design discipline. Applicants will also be expected to demonstrate abilities in research that are evidenced by measurable outputs such as publications and/or creative works. Candidates are encouraged to provide a portfolio of their design work. The applicant is expected to have an understanding of current design trends and practices in information aesthetics, visual communication and interaction design. It is expected that the successful applicant will engage with existing interdisciplinary research projects within the department.
Interactive and Visual Design is a multidisciplinary department that brings together artists and designers working across a range of fields including graphic design, interaction design and electronic arts. The group has only recently joined The School of Design at QUT, and the successful applicant will be involved in developing new classes and courses, and establishing meaningful research connections with other disciplines within the School of Design, which include: Architecture, Fashion, Industrial Design, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture and Urban Design. This range of disciplines demonstrate that the value of design is increasingly recognised in society; impacting through a spectrum of domains from creative to the scientific, and in the many areas of integration. The School of Design specialises in areas that inform the practice of design including design thinking, digital and green technologies, people and systems, complex urban and landscape approaches. This marks a point of differentiation as a school, and which characterises the sustainable paradigm.
