Piksel is involved in several off-festival activities throughout 2012, both
locally in Bergen and in collaborative projects internationally.
These activities are named Piksel Pulse.

■■ 1. LGRU (Libre Graphics Research Unit)

Piksel hosted Piksels & Lines- the third meeting of this research seminar 
series in Bergen 6.-9. June 2012. The seminar had particular focus on 
improvements, interoperability and fringe use of F/LOSS graphic bitmap and 
vector software, as well as generative software used in performative contexts. 
We invited artists, programmers, designers and theoreticians from all over 
Europe to imagine the future of image creation and processing software in 
collaboration, through four days of presentations, discussions, hands-on 
workshops, demonstrations and performances.

The fourth LGRU research seminar is scheduled for 27.-29. September and is to 
be hosted by WORM in Rotterdam (NL).

■■ 2. OPENSOUND

OPENSOUND is a European network enabled through the Grundtvig learning 
partnerships program. OpenSound is coordinated by APO33 (Nantes, FR) and 
partners include AntiTesi (Palermo, IT), Piksel (Bergen, NO), Granular 
(Lisbon, PO), Audiolab (San Sebastian, ES), ModusArts (London, UK), and N.K. 
(Berlin, DE). By participating in workshops, symposiums and conferences new 
skills will be developed as well as new focus areas of strengths in urban 
sound art, communication technologies, social inclusion and cross disciplinary 
discussions.

Piksel attended OpenSound hosted by Audiolab in San Sebastian January 2012, 
and will attend Metasonic hosted by Granular in collaboration with the 
OpenSound project in Lisbon 25.-29. June 2012.
Piksel will be the host for OpenSound in Bergen from 28. August- 1st of 
September 2012.

OUTRO STREAM: FREE AS IN ART!

Piksel is an international event for artists and developers working with 
Free/Libre and Open Source technologies in artistic practice. It is organised 
in Bergen, Norway, and involves participants from more than a dozen countries 
exchanging ideas, coding, presenting art and software projects, doing 
workshops, performances and discussions on the aesthetics and politics of free 
technologies, free culture & art.
