Lighthouse are pleased to be co-presenting a new film installation by
The Otolith Group. This poetic and poignant new commission is centred
on the renowned poet, painter and philosopher Etel Adnan. It is part
of a trilogy of works by the artists which reflect on water as a
source of political and cultural power.

It has been co-commissioned by Lighthouse, Fabrica, Brighton
Festival, Blast Theory, Photoworks and the University of Brighton's
Faculty of Arts.

The work is an intimate portrait of the Lebanese-American writer,
Etel Adnan, one of the most important contemporary figures in Middle
Eastern literature. Her highly influential writings, in French,
English and Arabic have been read around the world. Her recent work,
'Sea and Fog' evokes the sea as a metaphor for power, exploring the
nature of the individual spirit and the individual spiritedness of
the natural world.

Central to The Otolith's new film, made largely in Adnan's Paris
apartment, is a reading of extracts from Adnan's recently published
poems. The sound of Adnan's voice, and the quiet but ever present
ambient noise in her apartment, create a film with a powerful,
meditative atmosphere.

The work is the second part of a trilogy of works by The Otolith
Group reflecting on water as a source of political and cultural
power. The first in the trilogy was 'Hydra Decapita' (2010).

'I See Infinite Distance Between Any Point and Another' was
commissioned as part of the 'Voices of the Sea' initiative
(http://www.lighthouse.org.uk/programme/voices-of-the-sea) a
commissioning opportunity created by a group of Brighton's leading
visual arts organisations for the Cultural Olympiad - London 2012.
The commissions are inspired by 'The Boat Project' by Lone Twin,
which begins its maiden voyage in 2012 and visits Brighton as part of
Brighton Festival.

Flock, and an exhibition by Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard.

Sea of Voices by Invisible Flock (http://is.gd/invisibleflock) is a
sound walk, enriched by interactive sculptures and digital
storytelling, which explores the imagery, mythology and history of
the coast. It acts as a conceptual mooring line between Fabrica on
Ship Street, where The Otolith Group installation is showing, and
Brighton Marina, where 'The Boat Project' will be docked this May.
Dates: 5 - 27 May 2012
Venue: Starts at Fabrica, Brighton and continues along the Brighton
seafront to Brighton Marina.

Audience/Performer is a programme of acclaimed film and video works
by Iain Forsyth & Jane Pollard (http://is.gd/forsythpollard) showing

contemporary artists, working at the edge of performance and new
media. Music is a potent device throughout their practice, which
unpicks popular culture through re-enactment and repetition.
