Most presentations will be in German, but there are a number of films in
eng. original, and some with spanish subtitles (if desired). Program
includes "Pacific Blue" about autonomous housing movement in Japan,
Whispered Media's "Boom: The Sound Of Eviction", "Mirror, Mirror" about
queer space in the UK. And the XL Terrestrials will present a sneak
preview of their NEW cinematic psychomedia analysis program: The
Transmigration Of The Telepresent ( 2008 summer tour ) Saturday at 20:00h

The Right To The City - Soziale Kämpfe in der neoliberalen Stadt
Workshop zur Diskussion und Vernetzung

Videoüberwachung öffentlicher Räume, Verdrängung marginalisierter Gruppen
aus den IInnenstadtzentren, Privatisierung städtischer Infrastrukturen
oder des sozialen Wohnungsbaus - das alles (und mehr) ist als Kennzeichen
einer neoliberalen Stadtpolitik weithin bekannt. Städte sind durch die
kapitalistische Globalisierung seit mehr als drei Jahrzehnten durch die
(reale oder befürchtete) Abwanderung von Unternehmen mit sinkenden
Steuereinnahmen konfrontiert. Zugleich wachsen mit steigender
Arbeitslosigkeit die Kosten für notwendige Transferleistungen.
Stadtpolitik zielt zunehmend auf eine Steigerung der Attraktivität der
Stadt als Standort (für Unternehmen, Tourismus sowie als Wohn- und
Konsumort für Mittelschichten). Unter den Bedingungen verschärfter
Städtekonkurrenz erhöht sich zudem die Geschwindigkeit, mit der
Stadtentwicklung vorangetrieben wird. Im Rahmen einer festivalisierten“
Stadtpolitik werden Großprojekte beispielsweise mit Verweis auf den
Zeitdruck vor „Events“ wie Olympische Spiele, Weltmeisterschaften oder
Gartenschauen politisch durchgedrückt. GegnerInnen werden dabei meist als
SpaßverderberInnen diskreditiert.

XLTerrestrials (XLT) present The Transmigration Of The Telepresent, the
2nd installment of their unlicensed psychomedia analysis and interactive
film program, a deconstructive art and social praxis which began with The
Transmigration Of Cinema in 2005 to analyze and affect the new mass media
landscape and (what we call) “virtual migration”.

Today we are enraptured by a (primarily) military and corporate and
venture capital sector invention, a digital network unleashed for
“civilian use” at the end of the 80s. WWW - a wonderous new technopoly
that also “brings good things to life” (an old slogan of General Electric,
a military contractor and TV broadcast conglomerate). Now at
arts+technology exhibitions around the world there is quite a buzz about a
telematicly-engaged society, much more so than even those Disneyesque
Tomorrowland shows of yesteryear which hyped rocket ships and connections
to life and planets beyond. Is civilian technology now the dominant
paradigm or is a gullible species being taken on another ride ?!

Dr. Podinsky and an XLT reconnaissance team will perform a magickal +
cinematic vivesection of our increasingly disembodied user-culture.
