Pixelache Helsinki 2008: PIXELACHE UNIVERSITY

Does the educational system have room for hackers, circuit benders,
environmental activists and VJ artists? What would be a suitable
curriculum for nurturing independent grassroot initiatives?

The seventh edition of Pixelache festival in Helsinki (13-16 March 2008)
will focus on education. Pixelache celebrates this theme by opening its very
own educational programme, entitled 'PIXELACHE UNIVERSITY'.
The curriculum consists of monthly Pixelache events (presentations,
workshops, concerts and parties) organised together with our collaborators
in Helsinki.

You can sign up to Pixelache University as a student and at the end of the
season receive an official Pixelache University Diploma. The first lecture
will take place on 13 October 2007, in connection with Megapolis 2022
event initiated by Dodo (www.megapolis2022.org).

The goal of Pixelache University is to offer alternative and critical
perspectives to the development of mainstream media and technology.
Pixelache University serves as a common ground for artists, engineers,
designers, researchers and architects etc., to meet and exchange.

Pixelache Helsinki is a part of an international network of electronic art
festivals. The other members are  Pixelvärk/Stockholm, Piksel/Bergen,
Pikslaverk/Reykjavik, Mal au Pixel/Paris and Pixelazo/Medellin.

Megapolis2022 - Environmental problems are solved in cities

Over 1000 people are expected to meet and discuss on global
environmental issues in Vanha ylioppilastalo in the heart of Helsinki,
Saturday 13.10,  this time particularly on consumption. What
is the role of a consumer? Instead of income policy should
politicians debate on defining environmentally-based prices
for products?

As a part of Megapolis 2022 programme, Pixelache organises
a morning coffee talk with artist duo Helen Evans & Heiko
Hansen (www.hehe.org) who will give a presentation about
their Nuage Vert ('Green Cloud') project.
