Telenouvelle Vague
Dir. Fran Ilich, 39 min, Mexico DF 2005
(with Sol-Ho, Diana Weis, Adonay Cabrera, Luis Martignon,
Blas Valdez y Tania Molina, among other actors)
A soap opera homage to Jean-Luc Godard. based on a real incident, the
plot is about Esmeralda, a women from Juárez, an industrial bordertown
in the north of Mexico who finds her brother 20 something years after
being kidnapped by the military during the urban guerrila 'dirty war'
of the seventies. The whole series consists of 13 episodes of 3
minutes mixing sci-fi with traditional melodrama, and the Brazilian
music of re:comb where Esmeralda slowly discovers the complexities of
politics and life in Mexico City. A telenovela series about spies and
political activity, the project was called Telenouvelle Vague and it's
a mix between soap operas and Godard.
