> A woman pulls a suitcase out of its hiding place; inside is her body.
> Haunted by the idea that the former occupant is still living in the
> apartment she now inhabits, the strange story takes its course. Based
> on this scenario SUGAR occupies a space between cinema and gallery.
>
> One component of the SUGAR project is a long film loop. This uses the
> language and narrative codes of cinema to tell a story whose form amd
> momentum are entirely circular. Time expands and contracts throughout
> a spiralling sequence of events experienced or imagined. These
> perceptions are described through morphing perspectives that range
> through objective, subjective, voyeuristic, dream, delusion and
> hallucination. The line between the narration and the protagonist's
> psychosis blurs. The film captures her schizophrenic perceptions in
> the same way as the real situation inside the apartment,
> and through this amalgamation it becomes practically impossible to
> untie the knot and discern between pychosis and reality.
>
> Additional images and sculptural works presented with the film were
> created in response to questions that arose during the process of
> making the film: How do the dynamics of cinematic and gallery space
> differ. How long does it take an event to happen? How long does it
> take to relate to an event? What is the difference between time
> experienced and time imagined? SUGAR is the fourth film work by
> Patrick Jolley and Reynold Reynolds. The story scenarios were worked
> out during filming with Samara Golden who plays the part of the
> tenant.
>
> Through October 3, 2005 another film by Reynold Reynolds is being
> shown in the exhibition “Urbane Realitäten- Fokus Istanbul” in
> the Martin Gropius Bau, Berlin. In 2004/2005 Reynold Reynolds was the
> Art Fellow of the American Academy in Berlin in cooperation with the
> Künstlerhaus Bethanien.
