On 10 June at 18.oo will be inaugurated, as collateral event of the 51st
Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition, NowHere Europe, promoted by
the Fondazione Adriano Olivetti of Rome, a project that will take place in
a site that has until now never been open to the public: the Laboratorio
Scientifico della Soprintendenza Speciale per il Polo Museale Veneziano,
directed by Giovanna Nepi Scirè. The event, curated by Bartolomeo
Pietromarchi, constitutes the final phase of the research project
Trans:it. Moving Culture through Europe: a recognition across Europe of
creative practices in art, architecture and the urban dimension that are
re-defining the concept of public space. Through documentation of over 50
artists (from Mario Airò to Lucy Orta) and projects (from Nouveaux
Commanditaires in France to Nuovi Committenti in Italy), a common
sentiment emerges which, from Norway to Turkey, from Spain to Bulgaria,
from Cyprus to Romania, offers a shared context in which artist,
institution and civil society experiment with new relationships and seek
new forms of cohabitation, comprehension and vision of the urban space.
Furthermore, the exhibition will also be the occasion for the presentation
of the book the [un] common place. art, public space and urban aesthetics
in Europe, published by Actar-Barcellona, in two versions, Italian and
English, which also contains the DVD with a cycle of three documentaries
that are an integral part of the Trans:it project. Three itineraries in 11
European cities, with interviews with artists, curators, critics and
intellectuals, which describe the contexts in which the interventions were
realized and offer an introductory panorama of the issues dealt with in
the book. The three documentaries will be shown along with a selection of
videos and documentaries on the artists’ projects. Also planed for the
inauguration is a performance by Cesare Pietroiusti, entitled 10.000
unique art works distributed for free. The Advisory Board for NowHere
Europe is made up of: Ruxandra Balaci, Iara Boubnova, Anselm Franke,
Germana Jaulin, Katerina Koskina, Marco Scotini, Nina Vagi?. NowHere
Europe is a project by Fondazione Adriano Olivetti, realized in
collaboration with the European Cultural Foundation, Fondation Evens,
Fondation de France, The J.F. Costopoulos Foundation and the
Soprintendenza Speciale per il Polo Museale Veneziano and Actar, with the
support of the Compagnia di San Paolo.
