Dear A,

I come to learn by your e-mail on Henri Cartier Bresson's death. Since July
26th I am in Jerusalem. I continue my work on [the tracks of the war in
Moyen-0rient]. For a week I live in Bethleem. I have rented an apartment,
cheap, in a house where I work a story on. Return to Paris on August 27th. I
shall call you.
It makes for me so strange learning the death of Cartier Bresson, here.
kiss you. Farida

    FARIDA HAMAK
    The life is unpredictable,
to exist is a miracle of the light
    and what says it,
it is the gesture and the accessory in the scene

Farida Hamak lives in Paris; we met thanks the photographer Martine
Voyeux (for her part to tribute as an editorial publication in our magazine
to come next winter) who presented us.

Among other of her activity Farida is the editorial photographer of
criticalsecret "Resistances" -the issue #14 to appear online before
September-, when we shall edit unpublished fragments of her current works;
they are always in the length courts, and some at the same time launched in
network towards Algeria, Lebanon, Iraq, Israel, Palestine... So many fates
opened by the flight of the unpredictive migrations, that she observs in
progress while living with. She restructured for us several subjects from
there, taken them a moment out of their progressive construction.

The question for Farida is to decide when she closes a fascinated subject,
then borning the bipolar object of her creation -that is to say a book:
because she integrates together the photography and the text. Her images are
not icons linked in the writing but they establish the vibrating landscape,
the enigmatic opening on the intimacy, stolen from the material insecurity.

She is an artist and ethnologist of the precarious life to value despite the
lack of security in places torn by the war, burst by the migrations towards
the resources, that only the continuity of affects and the topology deprived
allow to face, effecting an interbreeded reinstatement crossing traditional
cultures, in the course of the events of the uncertainty.

She is twice photographers, once pressed for agencies and the other time
producing herself her work, patiently, dedicating her specific journeys to
several episodes solo, so that the other knows the vacancy when she sees
only the tension of the perpetual photographic adventure of the social
community.

Of the second generation of the French of Algerian origin, Farida published
this year a book on her mother, who was greeted in France and in Algeria, as
well as in the specialized feminine and photographic press. In fact, this is
the first book which arrives, the others will follow...

My mother, history of an immigration - Inas-Zelligue Publishers,
Algiers, on 2004.

Bit by bit, Farida notably works on Jerusalem since two years, from where
she reaches us by e-mail at the moment we had thought of contacting her in
France...

    HARVEY BENGE
A device of vision to the pattern in the curtain
the radical material and the detail of eternity.

Knowing of Harvey Benge thanks Dolorès Marat, the editorial photographer
of the exit n°1 " Current events of the vampire " and co-founder of
criticalsecret. Harvey is the editorial photographer of the exit n°7 "
Divided reality ".

He lives in New Zealand and works at the alternative moments in Auckland or
in Paris.
If he also throws journeys, it is for the eyes. To see here it is to know.
To photograph it is to aim. He knows objects, attitudes common of the vast
world, which he will take strangely at the moment "m", in a point "p", in
the objective " omega " where urban spends the eternity of the cities
through the residential campaigns or the overpopulated beaches, just like
the desert contemplated, and the collection of which successively
accumulated builds a puzzle: Harvey Benge's landed beacon for another
galaxy.

His house takes place on the beach where Jane Campion shot The lesson of
piano ( 1985 ), so that he writes us since the oceanic winter today, whereas
in December he will come back from the bath with his daughters. In spring,
he will be back among us - if he does not restart immediately to Germany, to
the United States, or suddenly somewhere else - but it is foreseen always
for a long time, really thus soberly, inevitably.

Harvey was a Director of publicity as creative agent. In 1992, he decided
not to devote more than to the photographic work.
