Rebuild All Your Ruins is proud to present Nicedisc’s Untitled, the
first DVD release by the New York-based laptop audiovideo duo Nicedisc
(Jeff Pash and Nick Phillips). The product of a year’s worth of
extensive live performances and recording, Untitled comprises three
extended minimalist pieces that explore the essential grammar of
digital audio and video composition. Inspired by the pioneering work
of the 1960’s structuralist
school of film, Untitled pairs rich fullscreen colors against a
shifting sonic framework of carefully processed loops and echoing
sinewaves. The result is hypnotic and meditative, a slowly unfolding
investigation into
sound and image that variously recalls the scientific formalism of
Ryoji Ikeda, the metric films of Peter Kubelka, and the psychedelic
haze of Brion Gysin’s Dream Machine. This limited edition Super Jewel
Case
pressing includes 4 bonus tracks recorded live on the Nicedisc 2002
U.S. tour.

Featuring:
1.	Fade - A pairing of single-hued luminosity fades with a series
of elegiac audio loops that investigates the way in which minute
differences in color gradation become infused with emotional content
through music. Originally conceived for a live performance at Tonic,
NY, 11/23/2003. Recorded in Brooklyn, NY, 1/8/2004.
2.	Flicker + Fade - A reinterpretation of Tony Conrad’s 1966
film “The Flicker,” which reimagines the stroboscopic effect of
flickering film by digitally synching the frequency and volume of
eight sinewaves to the luminosity and hue of eight channels of video
using networked computers. Originally conceived for a live performance
at Mills College, Oakland, CA, 11/21/2002. Recorded in Minneapolis,
MN, 6/28/2003.
3.	Flicker - An exercise in stark juxtaposition, with a series of
subtly shifting loops paired against randomly generated bursts of
color. Recorded live in Brooklyn, NY, 12/18/2003.
