"The derelict is a wilderness within which alternative encounters and
practices can flourish: spaces no longer colonised by dominant practices;
spaces made derelict through the deliberate, often brutal, action of
economy, fashion or neglect."

Amid the crumbling yet opulent splendours of the former Midland Grand Hotel
at St Pancras Station, a vital new wave of contemporary artists encounter
historic architecture and the challenge of the derelict.

In the two-day 'The Derelict Sensation' live art event, specially invited UK
and international artists respond directly to this exceptional urban space
in a wide range of art forms including installation, sculpture, collage,
sound, video and live art.

Over 40 artists explore the derelict in a wide range of original artworks
created specifically for the event. This is a collaborative show where the
total effect has a coherence and impact rarely achieved in so-called 'group'
shows. Their work responds both to the theme of dereliction and to the
former Midland Grand Hotel, itself steeped in dereliction and
reappropriation.

"The Derelict Sensation" will be held on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd
November from 2-8pm in the Midland Grand Chambers, St Pancras Station,
Euston Road.
