Studioausstellung der lothringer13/halle
Eröffnung: Freitag, 23.Mai 2003, 19 Uhr

Maria und Josef vom eigenen Sohn getötet. Die historische Tat: Ein
Elternmord in der Lothringer Strasse. Kein Motiv. Keine Reue. Drei Wochen
lebt der Sohn mit den Leichen in der Wohnung. Reale Gewalt: in zeitlicher
Ferne und räumlicher Nähe.

Die virtuelle Gewalt: Töten im Film, Töten im Fernsehen. Fiktive und reale
Gewalt: Inszenierungen und Dokumentationen des Tötens, des Sterbens und des
Todes.

Im August 1919 wird das Nachbargebäude der lothringer13 Schauplatz eines
Mordes, dessen Details die Stadt entsetzten: J o s e f    A p f e l b ö c k
tötete Mutter und Vater und lebte drei Wochen mit den Leichen in der engen
Wohnung, bevor er festgenommen wurde.
Die Ausstellung im lothringer13/werkstattstudio verknüpft die Erinnerung an
dieses historische Ereignis des Jahres 1919 mit der Videoarbeit Witness:
AnAesthetic der britischen Künstlerin  H e a t h e r   B u r n e t t.
Verbindendes Glied zwischen beiden ist die Phänomenologie des Tötens: Das
Töten als reales und als fiktionales Ereignis, das Töten als historische
Tat, als filmisches Stilmittel und dokumentierte Grausamkeit. Die Rolle des
Beobachters, des Zeugen, des Voyeurs rückt hierbei gleichermaßen ins Zentrum
des Interesses wie die Bedeutung der Medien, die den Schrecken vermitteln.
Sowohl die nüchterne, historische Betrachtung der Tat in der Lothringer
Straße wie auch die brutalen Bilder in der Arbeit Burnetts individualisieren
den Akt des Tötens im Sinne einer Identifikation des Betrachters mit dem
Opfer, mit dem Täter oder dem Zeugen.
Das Video Defile der Künstlergruppe  A E S + F  (Moskau) führt das
Thema der Rezeption des Todes auf einer weiteren Ebene fort. Mit einer
modernen Form des Totentanzes konfrontiert es den Betrachter mit der
Ambivalenz der Wahrnehmung des Leichnams zwischen Faszination und Abwehr
sowie mit der Uneindeutigkeit bildlicher Repräsentation.

In August 1919 the Nachbargebäude of lothringer13/halle is the site of a
murder, the details of which shocked the city:  J o s e f   A p f e l b ö c
k  killed his mother and father and lived with the corpses in their small
apartment for 3 weeks before he was arrested.
The exhibition in lothringer13/werkstattstudio relates the memory of this
historical event with the video Witness: AnAesthetic by the british artist
H e a t h e r  B u r n e t t. The show displays the phenomenology of
killing: Killing as real and fictional event, killing as historical deed, as
cinematographic stylistic device and documented cruelty. The role of the
observer, of the witness, of the voyeur moves as well as the meaning of
media, which communicate the horror.
Both the clinical, historical view of the murder in Lothringer Strasse and
the brutal images in Burnett’s work individualize the act of killing, in the
sense of an identification of the observer with the victim, with the culprit
and the witness.
The video Defile of the artist group  A E S + F  from Moscow continues to
develop the issue on another level. With a contemporary form of
the danse macabre it confronts the observer with the ambivalence in the
perception of the corpse between fascination and rejection as well es with
the ambiguity of iconic representation.
