(Karavanaya,12)

16 December, 19:00 - Video Art of Russia
17 December, 19:00 - Video Art of Finland
18 December, 19:00 - Video Art of Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden

"Electric Visions" is the first major presentation of contemporary
video art from Russia and the Nordic countries. The programme
contains the best works from the past several years made by Russian
(25 works), Finnish (16 works), and Danish, Icelandic, Norwegian and
Swedish (23 works) artists. Among them are young but already
well-known artists, the participants and prizewinners from the Venice
Biennale and other prestigious international art exhibitions. After
its premiere in St Petersburg the programme will be shown throughout
Russia and in some of the most important European museums and centres
for contemporary art.

"Electric Visions" is the result of a landmark collaboration between
three institutions: The Nordic Council of Ministers, The Distribution
Centre of Finnish Media Art AV-ARKKI and The State Centre of
Contemporary Art (St Petersburg). The festival comprises three
programmes:

Video Art of Russia (curated by Marina Koldobskaya and Maria
Korosteleva of the State Centre of Contemporary Art, St Petersburg).

Video Art of Finland (curated by Kirsi Vakiparta of the Distribution
Centre of Finnish Media Art AV-ARKKI, Helsinki).

Video Art of Iceland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden (curated by Lars
Bang Larsen, Copenhagen).

Video art is a broad field of practice, which includes digital
animation, documentaries and staged scenarios as well as footage
recording happenings and performances. The single thing that unifies
this diverse group of artists and their unique brand of contemporary
art is that at some point in its production, it incorporates the
video camera - as opposed to more conventional film-based
experimental and short film.

The history of Russian video art spans little more than 10 years. At
the beginning of the 90s, when Finnish video art had already reached
maturity, Russian artists were just beginning to experiment with the
video camera. Since then Russian video art has come into its own,
while in the countries of Northern Europe a new generation of video
artists has come to prominence. This programme, which we are pleased
to bring to your attention, will allow you to see the main tendencies
of a Nordic contemporary video art whether from Iceland or Siberia.
