THE JOHN CARTER BROWN LIBRARY in Providence, Rhode Island, U. S. A.,
an independently funded and administered center for advanced research
in history and the humanities located at Brown University, will award
in the 2002-2003 academic year a single fellowship for the study of
colonial American history and culture funded by the Lampadia
Foundation and the Arthur F. and Alice E. Adams Foundation.
Applicants must be citizens of, and residing in, either Argentina,
Brazil, or Chile, and have a record of professional achievement in
historical research.
This fellowship is available only to scholars whose historical
research and writing pertains to the Americas in the period before
ca. 1825.

Located in London, the MA Film and Visual Cultures at Middlesex
University is a unique programme for studying the relationships
between a range of media including film, TV, video, art, photography,
design, architecture,
space and the digital.
The MA in Film and Visual Cultures at Middlesex University combines
the study of film and new media with the broader field of visual
culture. Based on our innovative work in Visual and Spatial Culture,
the programme challenges the traditional orthodoxies of Film Studies
and Art History by investigating an expanding and complex range of
media. Our intertextual approach to studying the relationships
between diverse forms of cultural practice, and their production,

CEP Visiting Faculty Fellows (VFF) teach social science courses in
English and collaborate with local colleagues on curriculum

The appointee will join an innovative regional media programme in a
University making rapid communication technology developments with
the USPNet 2000 project; will teach primarily in the areas of radio
and television journalism, journalism foundation theory and practice,
and media law and ethics; will be expected to conduct appropriate
research and consultancy, and may sometimes have to deputise for the
Programme
Co-ordinator. Applicants must have strong practical media industry
experience with a broad range of skills, specialist knowledge and
teaching experience in radio
and/or television, and sound knowledge of new media technologies.
Postgraduate qualifications in an appropriate media discipline are
expected.
Preference will be given to applicants with tertiary-level teaching
experience in journalism at a recognised journalism school. The
following are also desirable: experience in print and online
journalism; experience in distance education; familiarity with
Pacific media cultures,
politics and history; and who can contribute to the development of
the Programme's postgraduate courses.
For appointment at the Lecturer level, applicants are normally
expected to have a higher degree and/or considerable research,
teaching and media industry experience. Assistant Lecturer positions
are normally open only to citizens of the twelve countries of the USP
region.
