Professorship in Digital Visual and Material Culture
The successful candidate will have demonstrated research and teaching
expertise in the area of digital visual and material culture, ideally
with an epochal focus on ancient cultures. His or her scope of
activities include the development and advancement of computational or
computer-assisted methods for digitising, modelling and analysing images
and artefacts and for presenting digital objects in virtual museums.
He/She is expected to initiate new research projects in the area of
digital visual and material culture in collaboration with other
object-oriented disciplines in Göttingen, with the academic collections,
the Centre for Collection Development and the academic museum `Forum
Wissen’. The successful applicant will also set impulses for an
interdisciplinary collaboration at the intersection of image, object,
and text and for the integration of different research areas in joint
research projects. Therefore, independent research experience in an
interdisciplinary environment – ideally in a managerial role – is
desired. Moreover, he/she is expected to participate in the activities
of the Göttingen Centre for Digital Humanities.
His/Her academic teaching should address the main areas with reference
to Digital Humanities in the information sciences and also, if required,
in the relevant syllabi of the Faculty of Philosophy. He/She is expected
to participate in initiating novel degree courses and modules in the
digital humanities. Therefore, experience with the development of
cross-disciplinary strategies for the digitisation of teaching in the
Humanities would be most welcome. Göttingen University attaches great
importance to research-oriented teaching.
