Hi Alle -
Verzeihung, wenn Ihr das schon mal von mir bekommt habt, aber ich
versuche ein möglichst breite Kreise darauf anzusprechen!
WE NEED TO CREATE AN OPEN SOURCE AUGMENTED REALITY PLATFORM!
Apple's purchase of Metaio was great to bring AR to the world's
attention, and a total disaster for people who had been using the
platform for years and suddenly saw their projects become obsolete.
AR using image tracking, 3D mapping etc. requires complicated technology
that is in fact still a developing field. But GPS based geolocative
augmented reality is relatively easy and it would be no problem to write
an open source system that the community could expand upon.
Peter Graf started building the open source geolocative augmented
reality platform ARVOS, but currently does not have time to bring it to
completion.

Anyone out there want to help?
The existing code includes:
- basic client software for both Android and iOS devices
- provides the client's GPS location
- positions basic images (jpg, png) in both normal and billboard
(i.e. always facing user) format.
The ARVOS technical System Description is available on the documentation
page
http://arvos-app.com/documentation/html/
ARVOS requires these basic further steps:
- web server, ideally in Java
- integration of a library for 3D object content
- web interface for quick adjustments of AR content
in the field on mobile devices
Ideally, it would include these further steps:
- integration of various glasses
Please pass this on - or contact us if you want to help!
