 Einmal im Monat lädt das Metalab Vortragende aus aller Welt ein, bei uns
 von ihren Projekten und Ideen zu erzählen. Anschließend gibt es Platz für
 Lightning Talks, wo Besucher aktuelle Unternehmungen und Vorhaben vorstellen
 können, sowie ein Buffet und gemütliches Ambiente für Diskussion und Austausch.

Abstract:

A small central European country has survived the first steps after being
born in just 1993 and since then led a pretty successful journey to becoming
a leader in the region in both economical and technical aspects. From the
era of BBS, through unbelievably expensive 9600bps dialup connections, quick
jump through ISDN and DSL and fiber-to-the-home times, Slovakia has evolved
into a technological testbed for various technologies. It's location,
population and area all make it a pretty good environment as a testlab.
Forgetting the political situation for a while now, we could say we've been
doing pretty well.

Since the early days, people with interest in all things technology have been
experimenting on their projects, mostly alone. The big boom started with
Internet which, at first, seemed like an unknown land. The first brave
explorers gathered on IRC and formed various groups. Being a pretty small
community at the time, all joined into hysteria.sk.

Known since the early days for supporting cyberspace communities, free-
thinking and technical perfection, hysteria.sk is still being respected as
independent leader in the IT/security field. Legendary e-zine Prielom
('breakthrough'), first hacks in the 90's, two BIG incidents around 2003 and
2005 and an on-going tradition of Hysteria Sessions (gatherings). Plus fun,
innovation and eastern bloc thinking :)

We will present the past, the current situation and plans for the future, as
well as stories that haven't yet been covered.

A entertaining format of short lectures presenting current ideas, ongoing
projects and particularly work-in-progress. The length of a talk is strictly
limited to 5 minutes.
