Vom 18.-21. Oktober 2007 findet in Weimar das 9. backup_festival statt.

Auch in diesem Jahr suchen wir junge Film- und Medienschaffende, die im
internationalen »backup.award« um ein Preisgeld in Höhe von insgesamt 3750 Euro
konkurrieren. 

backup ist an filmischen Arbeiten interessiert, die durch eine kreative
Auseinandersetzung mit verschiedenen Produktions- und Ausdrucksweisen die
Grenzen und Möglichkeiten des filmischen Formats reflektieren und definieren.
Das Zusammenspiel unterschiedlicher Medien und Techniken, sowie deren Einfluss
auf Erzählstrukturen, Produktions- und Distributionsabläufe stehen im
Vordergrund. Es gilt bisherige Kategorisierungen aufzubrechen und hybride Formen
zu erschaffen.

Hinsichtlich der Grenzüberschreitung freier filmischer Formate sehen wir die
Anordnung der Beiträge in Themen und Genres als nicht mehr angemessen an. Die
Vorauswahl wird eine Einteilung entsprechend der hybriden Formen vornehmen und
Wettbewerbsblöcke präsentieren, die den Charakter der eingereichten Beiträge
widerspiegeln.

Eine unabhängige Jury aus Film- und Fernsehmachern, Produzenten, Designern sowie
Medientheoretikern wird die besten eingereichten Beiträge prämieren.

Die Ausschreibung erfolgt international an Film- und Kunsthochschulen,
Kunstakademien, Fachhochschulen, Universitäten, Film- und Medienagenturen,
Filmclubs, sowie an Kultur- und Bildungszentren und via Internet unter
www.backup-festival.de.

Die Preise sind für gängige Videoformate ausgeschrieben. Die Beiträge sollten
nicht vor dem 01.01.2006 fertig gestellt worden sein und eine Laufzeit von 15
Minuten nicht überschreiten. 

Einsendeschluss ist der 25.08.2007

Die Einreichungen sollten bis zur Deadline erfolgen und eine Sichtungs-DVD,
Stills, eine Dialogliste, sowie Synopsis und eine Bio- und Filmographie enthalten.

backup.clipaward - Musikvideos

Auch in diesem Jahr suchen wir junge Filmemacher und Clipkünstler, die in
internationalen Wettbewerbsprogrammen um Preisgelder in Höhe von insgesamt 3750
Euro konkurrieren. 

Mit der Vergabe des »backup.clipaward« möchte das backup-festival einen
Überblick innerhalb aktueller Entwicklungen der internationalen Clip-Kultur
bieten und damit ein öffentliches Forum für den experimentellen Clip sichern. Im
Vordergrund stehen dabei Musikvideos, die unter Verwendung unterschiedlicher
Medien und Techniken eine außergewöhnliche Symbiose von Film und Musik
erschaffen. Es gilt Bilder hörbar und Töne sichtbar zu machen.

Vorauswahlkommission und Jury bewerten Idee und Konzeption, das Zusammenspiel
von Bild und Musik sowie die künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit den
Möglichkeiten und Grenzen des Videoclips.

Die Ausschreibung erfolgt international an Film- und Kunsthochschulen,

The 9th Annual Backup_festival will take place from 18. – 21. October 2007 in
Weimar, Germany.

backup.award - short films

This year, once again, we are looking for young film makers and media creatives
interested in submitting work for the international category of the backup.award
and who would like the chance to win an award from the 3750 Euros worth of
prizes we have on offer.

Backup is interested in film works that reflect and re-define the limits of
short film and video and which explore creatively different methods and styles
of production. In particular this year the festival is focused on the
hybridisation of visual communication methods and on works which seek to break
down traditional practices of narrative structure, production and distribution.

In acknowledgement that many works submitted will cross-over numerous
traditional category guide-lines in their content, The Backup_Festival
pre-selection committee will sort entries according to their content 
and form. Works will then be put into competition blocks that reflect their
character. This frees film makers from needing to adhear to strict
self-categorization of their creative output.  

Prizes for the best entries will be awarded by an independent jury of
filmmakers, TV executives, producers, designers and media theorists.

art, universities, polytechnics, Film and Media Agencies, Film Clubs and centres

To qualify for entry into the competition, all works must be submitted in a
common video format, must have been completed after the 1st of January 2006 and
must be no longer than 15 min. in length.

This year, once again, we are looking for young film makers and media creatives
interested in submitting work for the international category of the
backup.clipaward and who would like the chance to win an award from the 3750
Euros worth of prizes we have on offer.

By awarding the backup.clipaward, the backup_festival offers an overview of
current developments within the field of international music video culture and
provides a public forum for experimental music video screenings. 
Particular emphasis is put on music videos which create an extraordinary
symbiosis of film and music by using different forms of visual communication and
production techniques. It’s imperative to make image audible and sounds visible.

The pre-selection committee and the jury will judge ideas, concepts and the
interaction of image and sound as well as the artistic exploration of the
possibilities of music video.

The call for entries will be announced at international academies of film and
art, universities, polytechnics, Film and Media Agencies, Film Clubs and centres
of learning and culture via www.backup-festival.de

All musical compositions featured in works submitted to the festival must be
used with the permission of their legal owner. Failure to obtain authorization
for compositions used in works submitted will result in their expulsion from the
competition.
