Erkki Huhtamo is an Associate Professor at the University of California Los
Angeles (UCLA),
Department of Design | Media Arts. He works on the fields of media
archaeology and media art in several different roles: as a researcher,
educator, writer, exhibition curator and television director. His writings
have been published in several languages, and he has lectured worldwide. He
has curated
international exhibitions of media art, including retrospectives of Toshio
Iwai, Perry Hoberman and Paul DeMarinis and large group shows like Alien
Intelligence (KIASMA. Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki, 2000). He has
been involved in organizing many international media art events, including
The Interactive Media Festival (Los Angeles, 1995), Portraits in Cyberspace
(The MIT Media Lab 10th Anniversary Exhibition, 1995) and the ICC Biennale
(Tokyo, 1997, 1999). His media-archaeological installation "The Ride of
your Life", featuring a computer controlled flight simulator platform, was
shown at the SurroGate exhibition (ZKM, Karlsruhe, Germany, 1998). He is
currently working on a book entitled "Archaeology of Interactivity" for the
MIT Press.
